ABOUT MEREDITH SILLS (CO-LEADER):
One breath, one movement, one step at a time, we learn to trust in ourselves and forge the way forward.
Transformation is a practice of repetition, just like all others. Learn to trust, push, surrender, and grow, all with what you already possess. My yoga journey began like many others, ignited out of sheer necessity:
Brand new to Boston and the city’s way of life, in 2011, I began working in a local artist’s studio in the trajectory of my academic career in Art History. Just months after moving to Boston from North Carolina, I suddenly became seriously ill. I struggled for months trying to sort out what was causing the illness. I wound up trying to sustain a very limited version of a vegan diet (rather unsuccessfully) to appease my body’s digestive failure and eminent shut down. Countless failed doctors and blamed organs later, my mentor in the art studio finally had quite enough of my constant state of frustration and exhaustion, and dragged me to my first yoga class.
It was six months after my first yoga class I began yoga teacher training, hopeful with my progress and new lifestyle to work my way back to health. My yoga practice serves me as a sort of tough love, when either my head or my heart fall back into old patterns of doubt or frustration. Looking back, I’m quite grateful for the turbulent introduction to yoga—without having been so ill I may never have found the practice.
It’s from this experience that guides me to teach from my heart, with the same sense of compassion and empowerment I learned to summon for myself. The process of our growth may not always be comfortable or predictable, but it’s what we choose to do with what’s laid before us that really matters.
Meredith will meet you wherever you are, whether on your mat, or in your life, with equal parts empowerment and compassion. Her practice will bring both high octane energetic movement and quiet stillness, moving through dynamic opposition in the body to challenge the perspective of our own limitations one breath at a time.
